A good opening prayer should welcome the presence of God, commit the service
into His hands, and prepare the hearts of the people for worship and the Word.
Keep it simple and sincere, asking God to guide the service and help everyone
encounter Him.
Here are a few ways you can pray:
“Praise the Lord, Hallelujah… Father, we thank You for bringing us together
today. Thank You for the gift of life and for the opportunity to gather in Your
presence. We commit this service into Your hands. Take control of everything we
will do today, and let Your name be glorified, in Jesus’ name.”
“Lord, as we begin this service, prepare our hearts to receive from You.
Remove every distraction and help us to focus on You. Let Your Word speak to
every person here, and let lives be changed today, in Jesus’ name.”
“Father, we invite Your presence into this gathering. Take control of the
worship, the Word, the prayers, and everything that will happen today. Let
there be healing, encouragement, direction and transformation. Let nobody leave
this place the same way they came, in Jesus’ name.”
You can also keep the prayer very short:
“Father, thank You for today. We commit this service into Your hands. Have
Your way in everything we do, speak to us through Your Word, and let Your
presence be evident among us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Then, Let’s receive the worship team as
they lead us further in today’s service…
