To encourage someone spiritually, remind the person that God is with him, strengthen his faith with the Word, and speak hope into what he is going through. Sometimes, what a person needs is not a long sermon, but someone who genuinely cares enough to remind him that he is not alone.

Sometimes you don’t even need to say plenty. You just need to know what the person is going through and speak directly to that situation.

You can say, “I know this season is not easy, but don’t give up. God has not forgotten you.”

Or, “You may not understand what God is doing right now, but keep trusting Him. This season will not last forever.”

You can also remind the person of what God has already done. Sometimes we forget what God has brought us through because of what we are currently facing.

And don’t just tell somebody, “Have faith,” when you haven’t taken time to listen to the person. Sometimes spiritual encouragement starts with listening.

You can pray with the person. Send him a Scripture that speaks to what he is going through. Check on him again after a few days. Don’t just encourage somebody today and forget about him tomorrow.

Sometimes a simple, “How are you doing? I just wanted to check on you and let you know that I’m praying for you,” can mean a lot.

The goal is not to say something that sounds spiritual. The goal is to help the person remember God, strengthen his faith, and keep going.
