A good church worker is faithful, teachable, committed, humble, and willing
to serve. Beyond having gifts or talents, a good church worker must have the
character and spiritual maturity to be trusted with the work of God.
When we talk about a good church worker, I think one of the first things we
need to understand is that being a good church worker is not just about coming
to church every Sunday or being active in a department. You have to be
faithful. If you are given a responsibility, people should be able to trust you
to carry it out without the pastor having to call you like ten times before you
wake up to your responsibilities. You may not know everything, but at least be
somebody who takes the work seriously.
Then, you have to be teachable. Nobody knows everything. You must be willing
to learn, receive correction, and improve. If every time your leader corrects
you, you get offended, then there is something you need to work on.
And please, character matters. You can be talented, you can sing very well,
you can preach, you can organize things, but if you have a terrible attitude,
it will affect the work sooner or later.
A good church worker should also be humble and willing to serve, even when
nobody is watching or praising him. Don’t only show up when there is a big
programme or when the pastor is around. Be committed to the work itself.
And of course, you need to be spiritually grounded. You cannot be serving in
church and neglecting your own relationship with God. You need to pray, study
the Word, and continue growing in your faith. So, a good church worker is not
necessarily the most gifted person in the department. It is somebody who is
faithful, teachable, dependable, and willing to grow. Because in ministry, we
are not just looking for people who can get the job done. We are building
people who can be trusted with the work.
