5 Text Message Templates for First-Time Church Visitors

2 min read

For Church Follow-up people. A good first-time visitor template should be
short, warm, and personal, thanking them for coming and inviting them back
without any pressure. Here are five templates you can send at different stages
after their first visit.

But the truth is, many visitors decide whether they’ll come back within the
first few hours of setting their foot into the church for service and some
maybe after few days. So that first text matters. It doesn’t have to be long or
anything fancy. It just has to show that somebody noticed them and cared that
they came.

1. Same-day thank you (send Sunday afternoon or evening)

“Hello [Name], this is [Your name] from [Church name]. Thank you so
much for worshipping with us today. It was a joy having you. We pray for God’s
blessing over you and your family this week. Hope to see you again next week!”

Send this the same day, while the service is still fresh in their mind. Keep
it simple. This one is just to say thank you.

2. Midweek prayer reminder (send Wednesday or Thursday)

“Good afternoon [Name], it’s [Your name] from [Church name]. I just
wanted to check on you and let you know we’re praying for you this week. Is
there anything specific you’d like us to pray about with you? God bless
you.”

This one opens the door for a conversation. You’ll be surprised how many
people will reply with a real prayer request. And when they do, please pray,
and follow up.

3. Invitation for this Sunday (send Friday or Saturday)

“Hello [Name], hope your week went well! Just a reminder that our
service starts at [time] this Sunday at [location]. We’d love to have you worship
with us again. Feel free to reach out if you need directions or anything at
all. God bless you!”

Notice there’s no pressure here.
You’re just making it easy for them to come back.

4. Invitation to a smaller group (send in the second or third week)

“Hi [Name], it’s [Your name] from [Church name]. We have [house
fellowship / midweek service / youth meeting] on [day] at [time], and I am sure
you will really enjoy it. It’s a good way to meet new people and grow together
in the Word. Would you like me to send you the details?”

Sunday service alone won’t keep
people. When a visitor gets connected to a smaller group, they start to feel
like they belong.

5. “We missed you” (send if they didn’t come back)

“Hello [Name], this is [Your name] from [Church name]. We missed you on
Sunday and just wanted to say you’re always welcome here. We’re still praying
for you. Have a blessed week!”

Please don’t make this one sound like
a complaint. No “Why didn’t you come?” You’re just letting them know
the door is still open.

One more thing: always make sure you send these from a real person, not a church broadcast official account. People can tell the difference. When the text comes from somebody who actually greeted them at church, it means much more and it makes them feel special.
